The best thing about going to a city you have visited numerous times before is that you don’t feel the need to ‘see all the sights’. Been there, done that, you know what I mean. Last week the wife and I decided to head for one of our favourite cities in the whole world… Amsterdam.

It’s always such a pleasure to be back in this bustling city and just stroll along the beautiful canals and have… coffee, of course. ;- This time around, we stayed at the very popular Volkshotel, which is located in an old office building in an upcoming area of Amsterdam called ‘Old East’. When I told the friendly girl at reception we chose this hotel because my wife stayed here a few months ago and she liked it that much we just had to come back together, she immediately upgraded us to a ‘special room’. Thx so much for that! We loved our special room and became really good friends with ‘Danny the deer’. We can also recommend hanging out downstairs in the lobby/bar/restaurant/coffee bar, great ambiance!

The first evening we took a nice (but very cold) walk along some of the interesting art-installations of the Amsterdam Light festival. The festival is still running until January 17th.

Later that night we had drinks at Bar Bukowski and for dinner we headed to Louie Louie. A busy, but trendy place for food-sharing! And oh yes, the bartender makes a mean Moscow Mule. 😉

The next morning we had breakfast at The Breakfast Club (just outside the hotel). Coffee break at Stach and lunch at Metropolitain.

On Friday morning we visited the ‘Banksy and Warhol Exhibition’ at the Moco. Soon to be seen in Antwerp and not to be missed!

Before heading back home, we took the free ferry from the train station and had some more coffee at the EYE (Filmmuseum). Great spot for coffee with a view!

Did you know the Thalys train takes you in no time from Antwerp to A’dam Central Station?

Amsterdam,… we will be back soon!
