4 sunny days in Whitstable

When the misses and I were young... hm, I mean, younger... we used to travel to the UK a lot, especially the South of England and the West Country, we even honeymooned in Cornwall. But somehow we lost sight of this beautiful country the last 15 years (busy travellling the world and so on... ;-)), except for our yearly trips to London, of course. Last year, we picked up on our tradition again and went on two trips, one to Rye and one to Canterbury. For this year's family trip, we decided to visit the lovely seaside town of Whitstable, which is only a 45 minute drive from Dover. We drove the car on the ferry at Calais and enjoyed a wonderful sunny crossing on board of one of the P&O ferries, called 'The Spirit of France'. An hour and a half later, we were already were admiring the famous White Cliffs of Dover. I completely forget how much fun it is to arrive in England by boat!...

4 days on Rhodes

Every summer there is one week that all three of our kids are out of the house all together (scouts camp) and usually the misses and I take that chance to get away just the two of us. It is sometimes good to get away together... I think the fancy term for that is 'to re-connect' once in a while. ;-) ...

A few days on Crete

Crete is a wonderful island to visit. The landscape, the beaches, the laid-back style, the food… Last summer we flew from Eindhoven to Chania where we rented a car and drove to our rental apartment in the quiet seaside town of Kissamos. The apartment (called Kallimento) was quite new, beautifully decorated and had three bedrooms and a nice terrace. The young lady in charge of it, is really friendly and helpfull! It doesn’t come with a pool, but is within easy reach of a number of stunning beaches. There is a local supermarket within walking distance which makes it easy to prepare a nice lunch at the apartment, should you want to do so....

Ola Barcelona!

As I already mentioned in one of my previous blogposts, I simply adore Spanish cities. Barcelona has been a long-time favourite of me and the misses and we visited several times. It's always nice to go back and discover new and exciting coffee bars, lunch spots or just walk around in...

Malta and Sicily

Last week my family and I travelled for four days to Malta and three days to Sicily for a short break during our Easter Holidays. Ryanair offers cheap flights from Eindhoven Airport (could this possibly be the easiest airport in the world?) and Malta and Catania are only a 30...

48 hours in Sevilla

I am an absolute fan of Spanish cities. Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia... they all have that certain laid back summery feel about them which I simply adore. Although I have to admit, Barcelona still remains my old-time favourite, Seville comes a good second. After visiting this gorgeous city twice before, it was time earlier this week to head back for a short two night trip with the misses....

36 hours in Copenhagen

When my wife and I were in Pretoria, South-Africa to adopt our oldest daughter (14 years ago already..., can you believe it?) we met a lovely Danish couple who were also adopting their first child at that time. We immediately bonded and they came over to Belgium to visit us and we...

24 hours in Amsterdam

The best thing about going to a city you have visited numerous times before is that you don't feel the need to 'see all the sights'. Been there, done that, you know what I mean. Last week the wife and I decided to head for one of our favourite cities in the...

Up and away

Nothing nicer than to just pack up and head to the Dutch coast for the weekend. End of October, early November is always a wonderful time to just stroll along the sandy beaches, clear your head and hang around in a cosy coffee bar and eat 'poffertjes'. This time around we...
