When my wife and I were in Pretoria, South-Africa to adopt our oldest daughter (14 years ago already…, can you believe it?) we met a lovely Danish couple who were also adopting their first child at that time. We immediately bonded and they came over to Belgium to visit us and we went to Denmark on two different occasions and each time enjoyed the country ànd the beautiful city of Copenhagen.

Since a few years, some of our oldest and dearest friends have been living in Copenhagen and since I had a work-thing over there last week, it was thé ideal opportunity for a short visit and some catching up. It’s always nice to have friends where you just can pick up where you left off, even though it’s been quite some time since you last saw them.

It was not only wonderful to see my dear friends again, but also great to see how Copenhagen has changed in recent years. There is always this sense of ‘freedom and easiness’ that hangs over this city. Copenhagen has definitely got ‘it’. It is simply filled with trendy shops and happening coffee-places. What also always amazes me, is how friendly and helpful people are over there! (for instance if you need to find your way to your favourite store, see below ;-)).

My friend was of course the perfect guide to show me some of the city’s most interesting spots, all in one day. So, what did we do? Well, we walked, talked, ate and drank all day. My favourite pasttimes…

New to me was the Superkilen area in Noerrebro which is an open urban space, definitely a must visit! My friend tells me it’s a great place to hang out in summer and have a picnic.

I told my friend I really wanted to walk by the ‘cirkelbroen’ (which I knew from Instagram), a new bridge designed by Olafur Eliasson, from which you have a great view on the ‘black diamond’ (the Copenhagen Royal Library).

Some great spots we visited:
Shopping: Superlove!
Delicious cocktails and foodsharing at The Union Kitchen
Beer and a big bag of crisps in a trendy setting at Mikkeller.
More beer at Noerrebrobryghus
The best Vietnamese sandwich ever in Torvehallerne at Lêlê
Delicious coffee (and cheese coffee!!) at The Coffee Collective

I flew to Copenhagen from Charleroi (Brussels South) with Ryanair (19,99 euros) and am already making plans to go back soon (with the misses)!
